The Art Institute of California – Orange County is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), recognized by the United States Department of Education, to award Bachelor of Science and Associate of Science degrees, as well as diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education. Although ACICS accreditation is nationally recognized it is generally considered inferior to a regional accreditation such as WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). The Art Institute has stated to students in both a letter and through faculty, that it would be attaining WASC accreditation. There has been no indication of any truth to this claim to date despite it having been announced more than a year ago. The Art Institute is also an institutional member of the Career College Association (CCA)[9] and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).[10]

[edit] Programmatic accreditation

The Bachelor of Science degree program offered by the Art Institute in Interior Design is accredited as a Professional Level Program by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (formerly "FIDER," the Foundation for Interior Design Education and Research).[11]
