ArtRage is a bitmap graphics editor for digital painting created by Ambient Design Ltd.

ArtRage, currently in version 3, is a painting package designed to be used with a Tablet PC, but it can be used with a regular mouse as well. Its mediums include tools such as oil paint, spray paint, pencil, acrylic, and others, using relatively realistic physics to simulate actual painting.

Other tools include tracing, smearing, blurring, mixing, different types of paper for the "canvas," (i.e. crumpled paper, smooth paper, wrinkled tin foil, etc.) as well as other special effects.

Versions

ArtRage 2.x comes in two editions: A free version and a commercial "Pro" version with additional features. ArtRage 3 comes in two editions: ArtRage Studio for the casual user, and ArtRage Studio Pro for the professional user, with improved and enhanced features and greater functionality. These are priced $40 and $80 respectively, and Artrage 2.5 costs $20. No news has been released about a free version of ArtRage 3, but a 30 day trial of Studio Pro is currently available. Artrage 2 remains available for download/purchase.

File Type and Export

ArtRage uses a proprietary file type, ".ptg". However, images can be exported to formats such as PNG, JPEG and Adobe Photoshop's .psd format.

Bundles

Pen Types

A version of ArtRage called "Ink Art" is now included in Microsoft's Experience Pack for the Tablet PC. This version is also bundled with several graphics tablets including some Wacom tablets. Ink Art contains a subset of features offered in the full ArtRage program. Promethean Planet, an educator community, distributes a free version of ArtRage for classroom use on Promethean's range of Interactive Whiteboards.^{[citation needed]}
