Ashampoo GmbH & Co. KG (pronounced a-shampoo) is a computer software company based in Oldenburg, Germany. They are best known for Ashampoo Burning Studio and Ashampoo WinOptimizer.

History[edit]

Ashampoo was founded in 1999 by Rolf Hilchner (former CEO of the company). The company's name was formed during a discussion about their first product, an uninstaller utility software, when Rolf Hilchner mentioned that "It cleans your Windows like a shampoo."[3] Their first published product was AudioCD MP3 Studio 2000. They have since published software for office productivity, security, optical disc authoring, system utility, multimedia, and CAD.

In 2007, they began producing several German web portals, starting with airshampoo.de,[4] and in 2008, netcar.de, enimal.com, and others.

In 2011, they claimed to have over 14 million customers.[5]
