Atherstone on Stour (grid reference SP205508) is a village and civil parish in the Stratford on Avon district of Warwickshire, England. It is located about three miles south of Stratford-upon-Avon, on the Warwickshire-Gloucestershire border and is essentially the estate village of Alscot Park. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 59.
[edit] Warehouse fire
On 2 November 2007, a very large fire at a vegetable warehouse (operated by Wealmoor Ltd) in the village allegedly killed four Warwickshire Fire And Rescue Service firefighters, Ashley Stephens, Darren Yates-Badley, Ian Reid, (who died in hospital), and John Averis.[1][2] On 28 February 2011 it was announced that three senior fire officers from the Warwickshire Fire Service would face manslaughter by gross negligence charges over the deaths.[3]
