This page lists the winners and nominees for the AACTA Award for Best Film since its institution in 1958.[1] The award is presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), an organisation which promotes the Australian film industry.[2] Since the 1958 Australian Film Awards the award is handed out to the film producer every year except for 1961.[1][3] For a film be eligible for nomination the Australian Film Institute must be satisfied that it is an Australian production and contains siginficant Australian content.[4] Until the 1974-75 Australian Film Awards this category also encompassed non-feature films and documentaries.[1] All reliable sources used in this article make no mention of nominees prior to 1976.[3]

In the following lists, the winners are in bold text in blue background while those not in bold are nominees. The years given are those in which the films were released.
