Avasant is a global sourcing advisory firm providing information technology outsourcing, business process outsourcing, knowledge process outsourcing, green sourcing, and private equity solutions. Its globalization services include mergers and acquisitions, Go-to-Market services, risk management services, global execution strategy, global legal services, and private equity consulting.[1]
Avasant's clients include leading corporations across various industries, including energy, financial services, manufacturing, medical and life sciences, technology and telecommunications, and retail. Avasant also serves clients in the defense and the public sector. On July 20, 2008, FoxBusiness aired a WallSt News Magazine interview with Avasant's CEO Kevin S. Parikh, discussing the impacts of globalization and outsourcing on world markets.[2]
Recently the concepts of Outsourcing and Globalization have come under increasing public scrutiny, particularly in the United States with concerns that jobs will move out of the country.
Avasant has offices in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Diego, San Francisco, Mumbai (India), Accra (Africa) and Chongqing (China).
[edit] History
Avasant was originally founded as Stradling Global Sourcing, as a sister company of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth (SYCR).[3] SYCR is a Newport Beach, California law firm in business for over 35 years. In 2006, the company changed its name to Avasant. Avasant represents the merging of the Latin word “ava” meaning “advisor” and the Sanskrit word, “sant” meaning “sagely.” Once merged the name means "sagely advisor."
In 2008, Avasant went through a planned management buy-out from SYCR. The two companies, although separate, continue to maintain strategic ties. Since its formation Avasant has been identified as a top sourcing advisory firm in leading industry publications, including distinctions with the IAOP Top Sourcing Advisor[4] and the Black Book of Outsourcing.[5]
In 2009, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the governments of Hangzhou[6] and Chongqing designed to improve BPO training and education in China.[7]
In June 2010, Avasant Global Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Avasant LLC, launched a subsidiary branded as AvaSense, Inc.[8] This new company developed a proprietary Dashboard for managing Outsourcing and third party contracts; it is delivered as a Software as a Service.[9]
