Aykut Erçetin[1][2] (pronounced [ajkut eɾtʃetin]; born September 14, 1982 in Göppingen, Germany) is a German-born Turkish footballer. He currently plays as a goalkeeper for Galatasaray of the Turkey Süper Lig.
[edit] Club career
He started his professional career with German Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart, before moving to Galatasaray in 2003, where he was understudy to Faryd Aly Mondragón for 5 years, not appearing regularly until towards the end of the 2007/08 season. The highlight of his career was Champions League qualifying game against Steaua Bucharest during the 2008/9 season, which he assisted in one of Steaua's goals. This performance remained indisputably unforgettable for the majority of Galatasaray fans.
[edit] International career
Before leaving Germany, he had already represented Turkey at U17 and U18 level, and he subsequently appeared for the U21 and B teams. He was on the bench in a friendly match against Azerbaijan on 12 April 2006 but has not yet made his full debut for Turkey.
