The Bali Songwriting Invitational is an annual event produced by Island Records Australia[1] and Bill Silva Management,[2] sponsored by Universal Music Publishing Group Australia,[3][4] Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA),[5] and supported by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI)[6] and Swara Padi Recording Studio & Villas.[7]

Each year approximately 25 artists, songwriters and producers from around the globe are invited to attend the 10 day long program involving songwriting and creating demos, in the Swara Padi recording studios and accommodations in Ubud, Bali.

The song writing event was launched in 2010[8] as a partnership between Bill Silva Management’s Peter Coquillard[9] and Island Records Australia’s, Michael Taylor,[10] in an effort to bring together different creative minds in the music industry. Having begun in 2010, the 4th Annual Bali Songwriting Invitational was recently held in May 2013 in Ubud, Bali.

2013's roster of writers and artists: 360 (rapper) (ARIA winning platinum Australian artist and songwriter), Joel Pott (Ivor Novello Awarded winning songwriter of #1 UK band, Athlete), Ricki-Lee Coulter(ARIA nominated platinum Australian artist), Greyson Chance,[11] Chris DeStefano(Grammy winning songwriter / producer, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood), Stuart Matthewman(Grammy winning, multi-platinum writer/producer- Sade, Maxwell), Anjulie (Juno Award winning Republic Universal US artist / writer- Nicki Minaj, Cher Lloyd ), Arnthor Birgisson (songwriter Sweden - James Arthur, Leona Lewis, J Lo, Enrique Iglesias), Dan McNamee (of ARIA winning Australian band Art Vs Science), Gary Clark (Ivor Novello nominated songwriter UK - The Wanted, The Veronicas, Natalie Imbruglia), and Stuart Cricthon.[12]

Since its inception in 2010, over the past years the Bali Songwriting Invitational has had artists attend that include;

Nick Jonas, Gary Go, Delta Goodrem, Havana Brown, Megan Washington, Brian McFadden, Julian Hamilton (of The Presents), Gin Wigmore, Marvin Priest, Arama Mara,[13] Rai Thistlethwayte(Thirsty Merc), Blue MC,[14] Ruby Rose,Sinead Burgess,[15] Tom Andrews (singer), Justine Bedser (Tiny),[16] Tiaan Williams,[17] Livvi Franc, and songwriters such as Bonnie McKee, Brian Lee (songwriter), Julie Frost, Herbie Crichlow, Heather Bright, Gary Clark (musician), and Paul Mac, Cassie Davis, Negin Djafari,[18] Fredro Odesjo,[19] Robert Conley (music producer), Jeff Miyahara, Louis Schrool,[20] Ylva,[21] Steve Shebby,[22] Audius Mtawarira, Lee Mac, Kelly Sheehan, Andreas Levander[23]

About APRA: Australasian Performing Right Association Limited (APRA): was established in 1926 and now administers the performing and communication rights of 73,000+ composer, songwriter and music publisher members in Australia and New Zealand. Public performances of music include music used in pubs, clubs, fitness centres, shops, cinemas, festivals, whether performed live, on CDs or played on the radio or television. Communication of music covers music used for music on hold, music accessed over the internet or used by television or radio broadcasters.

About Broadcast Music Inc: Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI)[29] collects license fees on behalf of the more than 600,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers it represents and distributes those fees as royalties to members whose works have been publicly performed (USA).

About Swara Padi: Swara Padi is a combined resort and recording studio that caters to songwriters, musicians and producers. The recording studio is equipped with high-end equipment in both analog and digital domain. Swara Padi provides in house sound engineer for every session, and can source local session musician players.
