Banner County Wind Farm
The Banner County Wind Farm is a proposal by the Chicago based Midwest Wind Energy company to construct a $60 million wind farm in Banner County, Nebraska. The 60,000 to 100,000 acre (24,000 to 40,000 ha) wind farm will have 600 to 800 turbines and a peak capacity of 2,000 megawatts. The wind farm was intentionally designed to be big in order to force the construction of improved transmission lines. It is expected that it could take 10 years to complete the project.[1]
The wind farm would be the largest in Nebraska. Elkhorn Ridge, an 80 megawatt wind farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska, which began operation in March, 2009, is currently the largest.[1]
Midwest Wind Energy is working with the Banner County Wind Energy Association as a liaison between the company and landowners.[2]
