Bapatla Engineering College (BEC) is a technical educational institution, located in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, India. BEC is located 4 km South West to Bapatla on the way to Chirala.

Bapatla Engineering College was established in 1981 by MP Kona Prabhakar Rao, with an intake of 180 students in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electronics and Communications Engineering branches. The college was initially affiliated to Andhra University and, from 1984, to Nagarjuna University.
An additional section with an intake of 60 was sanctioned for the Mechanical Engineering branch in 1987. The college offers nine B.Tech degree courses with an intake of 630. An additional 10% intake is through admission in the second year. The college offers six postgraduate courses in sciences including MCA with a total intake of 234.
Quote from the Bapatla Education Society - "A significant step towards the fulfilment of the laudable objectives with which the Education Society was started, was taken in 1981 with the establishment of the Bapatla Engineering College, a gift to this area of Late Sri Kona Prabhakara Rao, Founder Secretary, Bapatla Education Society and former Governor, Maharashtra. With the starting of the Bapatla Public School in 1987 and later the opening of M.Sc.(Maths), M.Sc.(Electronics). The Bapatla College of Pharmacy and The Bapatla Law College in 1995-96 the Society's unending quest for expansion acquired another memorable dimension, viz, that of having courses ranging from K.G to P.G under same management."

The Bapatla Engineering College, one of the seven educational institutions sponsored by the Bapatla Education Society, was established in 1981 affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University. A committee constituted by Acharya Nagarjuna University inspected the college on 15 June 2004 and recommended to AICTE the grant of autonomous status. The Institution of Engineers (India) accredited eight B.Tech. programmes offered by the college based on the recommend.
The college is one of the 17 colleges out of nearly 240 engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh, which is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Technical courses which are accredited are Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering and Mechanical. The college has been selected as a Network Institute for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the World Bank.

The four year B. Tech course is offered in nine branches - Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering, with a total annual intake of 900 students. Three M.Tech. courses are offered,, one in the Mechanical Engineering branch with CAD/CAM specialization, one in Computer Science and Engineering with Computer Science and Electronics specialization and one in the Electronics and Communication Engineering branch with Communications and Signal Processing specialization.From year 2010 civil engineering offers M.Tech with Structural Engineering specilization.
Apart from the courses in Engineering, the college offers six postgraduate courses - M.Sc.(Chemistry), M.Sc.(Computer Science), M.Sc.(Electronics), M.Sc.(Mathematics), M.Sc.(Physics) and MCA.

The teaching faculty consists of nine professors, 37 assistant professors, 138 lecturers and 127 non-teaching staff. Out of 184 faculty members, 26 have Ph.D. qualification and 86 have M.Tech qualification. Others have B.Tech./M.Phil./MCA/M.Sc. qualifications.
[edit] Academic performance of students
The college students of 1995–1999 and 1996-2000 obtained 33 University ranks out of 100. The college 1995-1999 batch students secured University I and III ranks. University I ranks during 1996-2000, 1999-2003 and 2000-2004 were also obtained by the college students. The college secured the highest percentage of marks (92%) in the university final year in first appearance.
The college is known for its performance in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers) conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Sciences. Every year more than 200 of its students get admission into institutions all over the country for doing M.Tech. In 2009 the college obtained ranks like 12th(Chemical), 17th (Civil) and 26th (ECE).

The college library has a floor area of nearly 22,000 square feet (2,000 m²). The Digital Library, equipped with 26 computers, offering free internet access to all students in addition to access to DELNET, SONET and online international Journals.
[edit] Extracurricular activities
Facilities are available for sports such as cricket, tennis, volley ball, Table Tennis, basket ball, shuttle badminton etc., and athletics. A team from the college participates in the international software contest conducted by ACM every year and the college encourages students to present technical papers in the national and international level technical symposia.

The college has a campus hostel for girls. It is a three storeyed building of 87 rooms accommodating 400 students, a dining hall, TV and audio room, shuttle badminton court, standby generator, lawn and flower gardens. There is computer access with free internet facility, with a connection to the main computer centre of the college.
