Bárbaro Rafael Cañizares [cah-nyee-that'-ress] (born November 21, 1979 in Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban first baseman that plays for the Guerreros de Oaxaca in the Triple-A Mexican League. He is 6'3" and weights 230 lbs. He bats and throws right-handed.

[edit] Career in Cuba
He played for Industriales of the Cuban National Series for 8 seasons, having played 520 games hitting 537 hits in 1775 at bats. He had 38 home runs and 294 runs batted in with an average of .303. He guided his team together with MLB player Kendry Morales to the postseason in 2005.

Cañizares signed with the Atlanta Braves on February 4, 2006.

Cañizares was called up to the Atlanta Braves June 11, 2009 making his major league debut the same day batting fourth and playing first base.[1]

After the 2010 season he was released by the Braves and was signed by the Guerreros de Oaxaca prior the 2011 season. In his first season he was the batting champion after batting .396
