Bartels’ Rotation Number is a serial numbering of the 27-day rotations of the sun, with the first being the rotation of January 1833. It uses a period of exactly 27 days and starts from 8 February 1832.
It is the serial number assigned to 27-day recurrence periods of solar and geophysical parameters. The equatorial rotation rate of the Sun is very close to 27 days. Rotation one Day one in this sequence was assigned arbitrarily by Julius Bartels to 8 February 1832.
