Cosse Group is an integrated marketing communications agency in Lagos, Nigeria founded by Funmi Onabolu, who rose through the ranks to become pioneer Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer at foremost marketing communications agency Biodun Shobanjo's Insight-Grey (Affiliated to Grey Global Group). The Agency commenced operations in 1995.

The agency is particularly known to have revolutionized the Nigerian Advertising Landscape by introducing new marketing communication strategies for both "above the line" and "below the line" advertising campaigns

Bates Cosse has received numerous awards from the Association of Advertising Agencies in Nigeria and numerous international bodies including the DAME awards.[1]

The operations of Bates Cosse is known to be unique as they adopt the Blue Ocean Strategy in implementing new concepts for marketing communications campaign for the Nigerian market.

The agency is affiliated to the Bates Worldwide network (Ted Bates (executive)), now part of Cordiant Communications, a WPP Company and maintains competence across a vast range of marketing disciplines which include Advertising, Multi-media Content Generation, Brand Activation & Experiential Marketing, Trade & Channel marketing, Strategic Media Planning and Buying.

The agency is one of the top 7 highest billing advertising firms in Nigeria and Major Clients include United Bank for Africa (UBA), Virgin Nigeria Airways, Wema Bank, Nigerian Breweries Plc, ARM, Interswitch, UAC[disambiguation needed] Dairies, Nando's and Unilever. Bates Cosse also won the creative business for Promasidor in Nigeria, following a highly competitive pitch involving leading Nigerian advertising agencies in December 2010.

Cosse currently maintains international working relationships with other agencies and production companies such as M & C Saatchi, Adams Advertising and Skysweeper films.

The agency is also reputed for having pioneered and filled the gap for experiential/activation practice in Nigeria in its early years, providing alternate media and one to one communication opportunities.

Solutions[edit]

Cosse created a complement of unique solutions such as the 'Sunny Golden World of B&H' Radio musical hit show for British American Tobacco (BAT)in addition to the 'Star Wheel of Fortune' and 'Looking Good with Amstel Malta' both for Nigerian Breweries Plc (a Heineken international company) The Agency also contributed in making Star Lager and Benson & Hedges the number one brands in their respective markets, via unique experiential marketing initiatives.

Cosse started Through-the-line (TTL) communication with the Benson & Hedges account in 2000 and got affiliated with Bates Worldwide network in 2001.

It also became the first local agency outside the centre allowed to develop creative concepts for both the B&H and BAT[disambiguation needed] corporate accounts.

In 2003, following a highly celebrated advertising pitch, Bates Cosse won the Globacom Advertising pitch, an account which the agency later resigned after a couple of years following a breakdown of agreement between the two organisations.

Bates Cosse is a member company of the Cosse Group, alongside other specialist companies including TownCriers (Experiential Marketing and Brand Activation), MediaIntegra (Strategic Media Planning and Buying), ProChannel (Trade/Channel marketing), AudioLab and VideoLab (Audio-visual production and content development)

In 2009, Bates Cosse's CEO, Funmi Onabolu became the president of the Association of Advertising Agencies in Nigeria (AAAN), while the Agency has been a consistent winner at the annual Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival (LAIF) Awards since its inception in 2007.
