[edit] Gameplay
Essentially the player takes on nearly the exact same type of side scrolling action found in the NES game, with similar but simplified graphics and enemies. It is only a single player game and starts out in a level similar to the NES game as well. The task is also similar, with the player playing as Zitz having to rescue both of his partners, Rash and Pimple.
However, there are plenty of differences in the levels and range in difficulty when encountering enemies or obstacles. The same "over-the-top" finishing combos can also be found in the Game Boy release.
As in the case of the original NES game, the Game Boy game is also notoriously difficult to beat, requiring fast reflexes, memorization of obstacles, and patience.
[edit] Disambiguity with the NES game
Despite having the same box art and title as the NES release, Battletoads for Game Boy is a completely different game with new levels. It was exclusively released for the Game Boy and was never ported to any other systems.
A modified version of the original NES game was later released on the Game Boy as Battletoads in Ragnarok's World. This version of the game has fewer levels in it and is only single player.
[edit] Trivia
- After seventh stage Professor T. Bird says: "You're a green machine, toad!! I love the smell of blasters in the morning - they smell like... victory!!!". It is a parody of catch phrase from Apocalypse Now.
