Katy Pearson, known by her stage name Bearkat, is an Indie folk artist. Her most recent album Houses on a Hill was released on 12 September 2012.[1]

Early life[edit]

Katy Pearson was born in Columbia, Missouri and raised in Maryland.[2]

Career[edit]

"I got labeled in the folk field early on. I'm not quite sure why this happened. I grew up in a small town in Maryland and maybe some of that rural living seeped into my music but really my influences are pretty solidly based in 60′s rock n' roll."

—Pearson, on being a "folk artist"[3]

Bearkat's pseudonym is a whimsical combination of the word bear and her first name Katy.

Bearkat started making music in 2007, releasing her first album Suitcase Swimmer in 2008, which was followed by her 2010 EP The Happy . Bearkat released her second full-length album, Houses on a Hill on September 4, 2012. Bearkat has toured most of the country with her drummer man/band mate Brian Bringelson, who has played all of the instruments on Houses on a Hill.
