[edit] History
They played in the top division of Turkish football between 1994 and 1998, playing once more in 1999-2000 season. After relegation from the first division, Vanspor turned to an economic crisis and were relegated from the 2nd and 3rd divisions between 2000-2002. After relegation from the 3rd division in 2003, the club was shutdown and refounded as Belediye Vanspor in 2004.
Their nickname was "Canavarlar" which translates literally as "Monsters" in Turkish. Their first colours were black and yellow. In 1983 they converted to black and red. Finally, they converted to a white and light blue kit in 1997.
The Van city is now represented by Van Belediyespor (Founded in 1982), which gained promotion to the 3rd League (Fourth Level) for the 2006-2007 season. Van Belediyespor changed their name to Belediye Vanspor and their colours from blue-white to black-red. This color combination was that of Vanspor's old colours. They promoted to 2nd League by finishing 1st in 1st Group of Third League in 2007-2008 season.
