Bikes Blues and BBQ
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bikes, Blues, and BBQ (alternatively named Bikes, Blues, and Barbecue, or abbreviated BBB) is an annual motorcycle rally that takes place in Fayetteville, Arkansas during the last weekend in September, and usually goes from Wednesday through the weekend (except in 2007, when the event ran from October 3 to October 6). It began in 2000. The center of the rally is Dickson Street, the downtown bar street just a few blocks from the University of Arkansas campus and host of the Walton Arts Center.
[edit] Background
The event begins every year with a ride into the city through the Ozark Mountains. The event supports a large number of local charities, raising over $100,000 in 2006 and 2007, and over $500,000 since 2000.[1][2]
In both 2006 and 2007, the event had an estimated attendance of between 300,000 and 400,000, from all fifty states and several other countries (up from about 300,000 in 2005 and about 200,000 in 2004).[1][3] Exact statistics are not known because there is no entrance fee and it is an "open" rally. It has been dubbed the fastest-growing motorcycle rally in the world.[2][4] while 2008 saw approximately 400,000 bikes in attendance.[5]
The 2009 rally, occurring September 23-26, 2009, will be the 10th anniversary of the Bikes, Blues, and Barbeque.[5][6] Several special events and activities beyond the normal ones are planned in commemoration of the 10 years.
In addition to the rally, there are many bands, a parade, a bike show, a bike giveaway, barbecues, the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ Babes contest, and many other official and unofficial events. The rally has been said by many to be second only to Sturgis.[7][8][9]
