[edit] Boundaries
For the 2010 general election, the seat of Billericay was effectively merged with Basildon to form a new seat of Basildon and Billericay. Billericay has a history of electing somewhat colourful characters to Westminster, namely Harvey Proctor, the rightwing MP who resigned after gay sex charges, and Mrs Teresa Gorman, Maastricht rebel who stood down after accusing the Commons Standards and Privileges committee of sexism over questions surrounding her registered business dealings.
From 1983 to 1997, the wards of the constituency were Billericay East, Billericay West, Burstead, Laindon, Wickford North, and Wickford South from the district of Basildon, and Corringham and Fobbing, Orsett, Stanford-le-Hope, and The Homesteads from the borough of Thurrock.
From 1997 to 2010, the wards of the constituency were Billericay East, Billericay West, Burstead, Crouch, Laindon Park, Pitsea North West, Pitsea South East, Vange, Wickford Castledon, Wickford North, and Wickford Park.[1]
