Birkbeck School and Community Arts College is a small secondary school of around 300 students, located in North Somercotes, near Louth in Lincolnshire, England. It draws its pupils from largely deprived rural and coastal areas within a 20 mile radius, many travelling by bus for over an hour each way to and from school. It was judged to be requiring improvement in its most recent Ofsted inspection.
The school follows the National Curriculum in Years 7-9, setting students by ability in some subjects. In Years 10 & 11, it offers national diplomas in ICT, Creative & Media, Engineering and Hair & Beauty as an alternative to traditional GCSE courses, as well as a range of foundation courses and the extended project qualification.
In 2012, 42% of all pupils attained five GCSEs grade A* to C including English and mathematics, placing it in the bottom 40% of similar schools' results, and in the bottom 40% of all schools.
The school runs art, design & technology, drama, ICT, music and science clubs at lunchtime and after school, as well as an after school fitness club, and also offers the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to pupils.
It fields competitive sports teams in Badminton, Cricket, Football and Hockey.
