The Birmingham-Hoover, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as Greater Birmingham, is a metropolitan area composed of seven counties in central part of the U.S. state of Alabama centered around its primary city of Birmingham. The population of this metropolitan area as of the 2010 census was 1,128,047, making it the 49th largest metropolitan area in the United States according to the U.S. Census 2010. Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Area is part of the Birmingham–Hoover–Cullman Combined Statistical Area.
