Black Hawk College is a community college with campuses located in the city of Moline and near Kewanee, Illinois.

Black Hawk College is a community college with campuses located in Moline and in Galva, Illinois (5 miles south of Kewanee). Founded in 1946 as Moline Community College, it became Black Hawk College in 1961 offering traditional liberal arts courses, occupational and adult education courses. In 1967 the college expanded operations to Kewanee, Illinois, and in 1971 opened the East Campus just south of Kewanee which also houses the agriculture and horticulture programs. The Illinois Community College Board approved the college as one college with two campuses in 1989. [1]

In addition to full-service campuses in Moline and new Kewanee, the Black Hawk College facilities include the Technology Center in Rock Island, Illinois, the Community Education Center in Kewanee, the Illinois workNET Center in Moline and the Outreach Center in East Moline.[2]

The college employs more than 400 full-time and 350 part-time employees at both campuses.

Black Hawk College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institution of Higher Learning Commission, the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. The college is also recognized and certified by the Illinois Community College Board.[3]

Black Hawk College offers more than 150 arts and sciences college transfer and career training programs. The college enrolls over 8,300 college credit students, 3,000 Adult Basic Education students and 6,000 Continuing Education/Vocational Training students annually.[4]

Black Hawk College competes in several intercollegiate sports as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Illinois N4C Conference, and Arrowhead Conference. The sports offered at the Quad-Cities Campus include men's golf, basketball, and baseballand women's volleyball, basketball, and softball. The sports offered at the East Campus include women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball. The college mascot for the men is the Braves and the women are the Lady Braves. [5]
