Robert David Smith (born February 12, 1958) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey forward who played for the Montreal Canadiens and Minnesota North Stars in the National Hockey League.

As a junior playing for the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, Smith set league records for most points and most assists in a single season, with 69 goals and 123 assists, totalling 192 points. Smith beat out Wayne Gretzky (182 points) for the 1977–78 OMJHL scoring title, and the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy. He was drafted first overall in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft by Minnesota.

Smith won the Calder Trophy in 1979 and the Stanley Cup in 1986 with Montreal. He is currently the majority owner of QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads.

On Monday October 18, 2010 he took over the head coaching duty of the Mooseheads from Cam Russell.

Smith also served as general manager of the Phoenix Coyotes from 1996 to 2000.
