Bolshevist Russia, Bolshevik Russia or Soviet Russia refers to Russia under the government by the Bolshevik party after the October Revolution. The following different usages may be distinguished.

  • The part of Russia under the control of the Bolshevik government during the interval between the October Revolution and the formal declaration of the Russian Socialist Federated Soviet Republic according to its first, 1918 Russian Constitution. In the contemporary official documents issued by the Bolshevik government the state was variously called "Russia", "Russian Republic", "Russian Federative Republic", "Soviet Republic or Russia", "Soviet Workers and Peasants Republic", "Workers and Peasants Republic of the Soviets", etc.
  • Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic
  • Soviet Union, following a popular misidentification of the Soviet Union as "Russia".
