Bongotones.com is a Detroit based, global mobile entertainment company that allows mobile phone users to gain access to mobile content through custom online multimedia applications. The company was founded in September 2007 as the brainchild of three diverse friends from Detroit and Toronto, with even more diverse tastes in music, with an official launch occurring in 2008.
Bongotones.com is a mobile multimedia website designed to give users a simple and secure forum to produce, upload customize and download mobile content from ringtones and wallpapers to games and videos. For example, these applications allow users to upload their own personal music and create their ringtones in whatever fashion they desire. Also, there is an extensive user-generated content database of ringtones that users can automatically send to their mobile phones. Furthermore, Bongotones.com has created a mobile social network dynamic that establishes a community of users from over 100 countries that have the same interests. The company saves the users both time and money when it comes to creating multimedia for their phones, as well as allowing them to enjoy their visit through interaction with others. Moreover, Bongotones.com has established a highly anticipated artist sign up page, allowing musicians and bands the opportunity to convert their original music into ringtones in minutes, making them instantly available to fans. Bongotones.com has been featured in Yahoo! News, The Oakland Press, WWJ (AM), AnnArbor.com, DetroitStartups.com as well as MyCityBuzz.com.
In 2010, Bongotones.com released its highly anticipated mobile wallpaper application to critical acclaim. In August 2012, the company redesigned its entire website to include a cleaner, simpler user interface to reduce clutter and improve navigation, an easier search function and improved ringtone and wallpaper filters for easier access to desired content. "How To" videos to assist users on the entire ringtone production and upload process, non-flash ringtone players and better-organized custom features have also been added. Other key improvements include updated front-end coding that have helped spur faster load times and create easier interaction with social media applications to further achieve the site’s goal to improve user experience.
Currently, Bongotones.com allows access to ringtones and wallpapers, but is in the process of launching applications that will allow users to customize and create their own mobile games and videos. In September 2012, Bongotones will debut a mobile site, followed by iPhone and Android applications. Similar to other social networking services, the website builds a following through user registration.
