This article is about the Boston College in Lincolnshire, England; for the university in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, see Boston College.

Boston College is a predominantly further education college in Boston in Lincolnshire, England. It is a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for Early Years Care.[1]

History[edit]

Boston College opened in 1964 to provide A level courses for those not attending the town's two grammar schools.

In 2007 a scheme for college redevelopment on West Street was abandoned through lack of usable space.[2] In 2008 the college planned for a £79m expansion of the college to replace the Skirbeck Road and Mill Road sites.[3] A smaller redevelopment of the Skirbeck Road site was undertaken, funded by selling the building on Mill Road.[4][5] The Mill Road building at the east of Boston was a former De Montfort University campus, and before that, Kitwood Boys School, now Haven High Academy. The adjacent Mill Road sports fields were not included in the sale.[6][7]

Sites[edit]

The college is spread over four sites:[8]

  • Rochford Campus — engineering workshops, beauty therapy, swimming facilities and halls of resident for 200 overseas students. Skirbeck Road, next to the River Witham and the Boston Leisure Centre.
  • The Sam Newsom Centre — music facilities and a concert hall. South Street, Boston town centre
  • Peter Paine Performance Centre — centre for sports and performing arts. Rosebery Avenue, Boston
  • Boston College Spalding — Red Lion Quarter, Crackpool Lane, Spalding

The College uses two further sites:

  • Ingelow Centre — centre for students with learning disabilities
  • Broadgate Campus — construction and motor vehicle workshops. Cresswell Close, Spalding

Principals[edit]

  • 1986-2001 — David Pursell
  • 2001-05 — David Pomfret
  • 2005-11 — Sue Daley
  • Current — Amanda Mosek, a former Deputy Principal of Grantham College
