"Bound" is the 93rd episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, the 17th episode of the fourth season. This was the final regular standalone episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, the finale being considered part of the "Birth of the Federation" arc.[citation needed]
Captain Jonathan Archer finds himself taking custody of three Orion Slave Girls with a hidden agenda, while Commander Tucker and Sub-commander T'Pol discover a deeper aspect to their relationship.
Enterprise is en route to the Berengaria system, one of the proposed places for a starbase, when a hostile Orion ship approaches. Its captain, Harrad-Sar, agrees to stand down weapons and he has a proposal for Captain Archer. Harrad-Sar wants Starfleet to cooperate in a mining operation. He claims he found a source of magnesite, enough to build a thousand warp drives. To improve relations with the Orion Syndicate, Archer decides to agree with the proposal.
Harrad-Sar insists on transporting three slave girls to Enterprise as part of the deal. While Archer tries to convince them they are not slaves anymore, the crew seems to be affected by their arrival. The men seem entranced and preoccupied, getting sloppy with their work, the women develop headaches. Meanwhile, Tucker and T'Pol discuss their relationship. Tucker feels compelled to tell the truth about him having dreams about her.
[edit] Universe continuity
- "The Gorn Hegemony" is mentioned by Harrad-Sar, the Orion ship captain - this is the first mention of the Gorn on Enterprise.
- This episode also reveals a secret about Orion females: While they are often viewed as "slave girls," they are actually in ultimate control in Orion society, as they use their pheromones to influence their males.
[edit] Production details
Although promotional stills of the episode show the Orion women wearing Earth-style clothes, they are never actually seen wearing anything besides their slave garb throughout the episode.
