Brad (Romanian pronunciation: [brad]; Hungarian: Brád; German: Tannenhof) is a city in Hunedoara County in Romania. Its name comes from the Romanian word brad, "fir".

Five villages are administered by the city: Mesteacăn (Mesztákon), Potingani (Pottingány), Ruda-Brad (Ruda), Ţărăţel (Cerecel) and Valea Bradului (Vályabrád).

[edit] History

The city was first documented in 300 BC. At first it was a gold mine, and the town developed around it. Gold mining is still active today.
