Brad Turcotte (born 14 November 1976), not to be confused with Brad Turcotte (International Director of Marketing at Big Machine Records) performing under the name Brad Sucks, is a musician from Ottawa, Ontario. Turcotte released his albums under a copyleft license.[1][2] Promoting his music through sites such as Magnatune and ccMixter, as well as MySpace and Podsafe, he has used micropatronage to profit from his work without restricting the freedom to share and modify it.

Turcotte received free publicity through blogs and interviews in free culture magazines. His first full CD, I Don't Know What I'm Doing, was released both through Magnatune and a limited "professional" printing from his own website.

[edit] Discography

[edit] Early career

Turcotte opened his website in 2002 with the intention of producing "open source music". His self-produced single, Brad Sucks One, included the audio source files used to create the finished files, and later he posted these source files to his website along with the mp3s.

[edit] I Don't Know What I'm Doing (2003)

I Don't Know What I'm Doing was released independently and without charge online on the 19th of December 2003 in mp3 form. It was also released in CD form on the 7th of June 2005 through both Magnatune and a limited "professional" printing from his own website with an extended version of the final track.

[edit] Out of It (2008)

Turcotte's second album, Out of It, was released on 8 September 2008.

[edit] Other work

Turcotte also runs the website stripcreator.com, which allows participants to create their own talking-head webcomics. He is also the creator of in4mador, an aggregator of user-submitted "interesting" links.[3] He is now working on some demos, and we may see the release of a new album.
