Brakel is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 8 km east of Gorinchem.

Brakel was a separate municipality until 1999, when it became a part of Zaltbommel.[1]

In 2001, the town of Brakel had 2515 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.64 km², and contained 915 residences.[2] The statistical area "Brakel", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2830.[3]
