[edit] Geography
The CDP and District are adjacent to the southern border of Prince George's County, lying east and west of busy Maryland Route 5/U.S. Route 301, which merge at Brandywine. Brandywine District 11 includes the entire Brandywine CDP and extends north and east into the adjoining CDPs of Rosaryville, Marlton, Croom, Baden, and Cedarville. Cedarville State Forest is located just to the southeast of Brandywine.
Although surrounded on either side by the sizable communities of Clinton and Waldorf, Brandywine itself has remained primarily rural and scenic; however, this is beginning to change, with new housing developments being built. The first phase of Brandywine Crossing shopping center opened in October 2008.[4] The community also includes Gwynn Park High School, a golf course, and a construction equipment sales lot.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 21.1 square miles (54.7 km2), of which 21.0 square miles (54.4 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km2), or 0.47%, is water.[5]
Brandywine CDP is bordered by Accokeek to the west, Clinton and Rosaryville to the north, and Croom and Cedarville to the east, all in Prince George's County. Waldorf in Charles County borders Brandywine to the south.
