[edit] Experience on Capitol Hill
A graduate of Tulane University's School of Law and the University of Virginia, he most recently served on Capitol Hill as Counsel on the House Committee on Financial Services in the 107th Congress for then-House Committee Chairman Michael G. Oxley and then-House Subcommittee Chairman Richard H. Baker.
Imperatore first came to Capitol Hill in 2000 as Senior Counsel to the United States House Banking Subcommittee/House Banking Committee on Capital Markets, Securities & Government Sponsored Enterprises. He served as legal and policy advisor to Subcommittee Chairman Baker.
βAt the end of the 106th Congress, he played a key role in advocating and organizing the transfer of jurisdiction over securities and insurance from the Committee on Commerce to the newly formed Committee on Financial Services. While on Committee staff, he worked on a broad range of issues affecting the financial markets, including the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, the Terrorism Risk Protection Act, GSE reform, securities analyst conflicts of interest, and merchant banking regulatory relief.β
[edit] Professional Background
Prior to working on Capitol Hill, he practiced for three years in the marine and energy insurance litigation group of the New Orleans law firm, Frilot, Partridge, Kohnke & Clements. He also volunteered as part of the George W. Bush legal team in Florida in November 2000 (Victory 2000).
[edit] Barbour, Griffith & Rogers, LLC
He left O'Connor & Hannan (a Washington, D.C. law firm), and moved his practice to Barbour, Griffith & Rogers (BGR), bringing FHL Bank of Dallas, the Coalition of Community Bankers and the Gray Insurance Co. with him as clients. At Barbour, Griffith, Imperatore heads a specialty practice comprising financial services issues at BGR.
Imperatore is one of two lead lobbyists for the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, which oversees the over-the-counter derivatives industry.[citation needed] This places him at the center of one of the most critical legislative areas in the financial services arena for Congress in the year 2010: regulating the currently unregulated market for OTC derivatives.[citation needed]
[edit] Family
Of Italian and Polish extraction, Brant Imperatore currently resides in McLean, Virginia with his wife.
One of his sisters, Leah Imperatore, is married to Chris Albright, New England Revolution soccer player; making the men brothers-in-law.[citation needed] One of his cousins, Alex Caprariello currently resides in New York.
