Breathing Room (also known as A Room to Breathe) is a 2008 horror film written and directed by John Suits and Gabriel Cowan.
The film is said to be "Low on camp and high on suspense", with a plot that resembles the 2006 French cult film 13 Tzameti[1] and House of 9.

[edit] Plot
Gabriel Hui (Ailsa Marshall) is tossed naked into a room with thirteen strangers.[2][3][4][5] She quickly discovers that they are all players in a deadly game.[2][3][4][5] She and the other contestants scramble to uncover why they are there and who is behind it.[2][4] Throughout the film, the lights go off and one of the players is hunted and killed.[2][3][5] Each time a dead body arises, a clue is left, which the players decode to find the answers they are looking for.[2][3][5] In the end, the similarity between the players is the fact that they are so different.[2][3][4]
[edit] Production
Breathing Room was shot in 2007 in Azusa, California, with two DVX100 cameras for around $25,000.[4] It has been distributed internationally through various carriers and domestically in the United States through Anchor Bay Entertainment.[4] The film was written by John Suits and Gabriel Cowan, two MFA film directing students at CalArts.[6][7] During their first year in school, they shot and edited a half hour short film in a single weekend.[6][7] They decided it was so fun and easy, that they should make a feature film. They quickly raised the funds from friends Kerry Johnson, Morgan Riehl, and Bryce Gerlach, and six weeks later, they wrapped production on Breathing Room. Since then, they have made two other feature films, and have several more in the works.[6][7] Much has been written on how and why young filmmakers make low budget thrillers.
