Brewing is an important technique in cookery and may involve boiling or simmering. Steeping of Tea and the Drip brew of Coffee preparation are two methods of brewing. However, in the United Kingdom the term brewing is synonymous with the process of making tea only.
Brewing is normally used of liquids — when other types of food are boiled or simmered the term stewing is more likely to be used instead.
Brewing is stewing herbs (especially medicinal herbs) and potions, and it is often employed in legend and fiction, especially fantasy, for example a "witches' brew".
