Johnson's work on Space: 1999 set the tone for the Star Wars films to follow.[1] George Lucas visited Johnson during the series production because he was so impressed with his work. Lucas asked Johnson to supervise the special effects for the first film but his prior commitment to Year 2 of Space: 1999 prohibited him from accepting.[2] He would later work on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back for which he would receive an Academy Award for Visual Effects. Johnson is best known for his special effects work on Thunderbirds and Aliens.[3]
