Brian Shin (born November 1, 1974 in Michigan), is the founder and CEO of Visible Measures Corp. Shin has co-founded four companies and was an early member of two other startups, Allaire Corp. and Medsite, Inc. Two of the companies he helped found, Creative Aspects and The Cambridge Intelligence Agency, were acquired for positive returns. Allaire Corp., where Brian worked in tech support and as a web developer, went public in 1999 and was subsequently acquired by Macromedia for $310 million. Medsite acquired Creative Aspects and then was itself later acquired by WebMD. Brian attended Upper St. Clair High School, where he twice won Pittsburgh area and PA state science fairs, and twice was selected to participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair, once placing second in his category. Brian holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Tufts University and earned his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management as a part of the dual degree MBA/SM Harvard-MIT Biomedical Enterprise Program with the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, a program jointly run by MIT and Harvard. He interned with Goldman Sachs & Co. in the Investment Management Division while in business school and acted as a startup consultant to Sirtris Pharma (Nasdaq: SIRT, acquired by GSK) and Magen Biosciences (acquired by PPD). Brian is an advisor and / or angel investor in several startup companies including Hubspot, Shareaholic, Kibits, and Dynomedia.
Brian is a founding member of the 12x12 Massachusetts startup initiative, a member of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative sponsored by MA Governor Deval Patrick and Secretary Greg Bialecki, a former entrepreneur in residence at MIT, a member of the Advisory Board of the Tufts University Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, and an Advisor to NextView Ventures. He is currently on leave from the second masters in his graduate studies to focus on running Visible Measures. He is married and lives in Newton, Massachusetts.
