Bristol South is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

[edit] Boundaries
The constituency covers the south-west of Bristol, bounded by the Avon New Cut to the north, the A37 Wells Road to the east, and the city boundaries to the south and west.
Following the review by the Boundary Commission for England into parliamentary representation in Bristol, the Bristol South constituency contains the following electoral wards:[2]
- Bedminster, Bishopsworth, Filwood, Hartcliffe, Hengrove, Knowle, Southville, Whitchurch Park, Windmill Hill.

The seat has elected Labour MPs since 1935.
[edit] Member of Parliament
The current MP for the constituency is Dawn Primarolo of the Labour Party, who has held the seat since 1987. She was a Minister in the Blair Government, and has been a Deputy Speaker of the House since 2010. Primarolo has announced she will retire at the next general election, widely expected to be held in 2015.
