[edit] Baseball
Brooklyn has a long history of producing some of Greater Cleveland's best baseball players. In recent decades, Brooklyn has been the dominant high school baseball team in their conference, whether it was the Inland Conference, the MAC-8 Conference or the Patriot Conference.
[edit] Hockey
The 2008-2009 hockey season proved a good one for Brooklyn. The team finished with a perfect 10-0-0 record in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League's Blue Central Division. "Making the Baron Cup is huge for us," said Brooklyn co-head coach Ryan Kelber. "We've gone that tough spell of six or seven years of hardly winning a game and now making the playoffs back-to-back years means so much to the players, parents, students, and even former students." The Hurricane hockey team won the Blue Central Division in the GCHSHL, and went on to its first Conference Championship since 1993.
[edit] Drama Club
Brooklyn High School is home to a more extensive drama club than many other area schools of similar size. Musicals performed there include Don't Rock the Boat (1994), Little Shop of Horrors (1995), South Pacific (1996), Oklahoma (1997), Anything Goes (1998), Cheaper by the Dozen (1998), Fiddler on the Roof (1999). The drama club made its return, after taking a short absence, to BHS in 2002, with a performance of the musical Grease. The 2003 musical was the popular The Wizard of Oz, followed by 42nd Street in 2004, Footloose in 2005, and Disney's Beauty and the Beast in 2006. In March 2007, they wowed the audience with a performance of Cole Porter's Anything Goes. The 2008 musical production, that took place April 10, 11, and 12, was Disney's famous High School Musical. The 2009 musical, Seussical, a combination of famous Dr. Suess selections, was held on April 23, 24, and 25.
[edit] Elvis Visit
The school gained notoriety on October 20, 1955, when Elvis Presley performed in their auditorium. It was the first ever concert Elvis performed in the northern United States. [2] It is also believed to be the first filmed concert in Elvis' career. It would be nearly a year before he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.
Elvis was not the headliner at the concert organized by legendary Cleveland DJ Bill Randle. The other, more popular performers were Bill Haley & His Comets, The Four Lads, and Pat Boone.
On October 20, 2005, some of the acts returned to participate in an anniversary event for this visit. Among the acts were Priscilla Wright, and Bill Haley's Original Comets. The BHS Chorale also performed a song with Priscilla Wright.
