Burlington's Sound of Music Festival
Sound of Music Festival is held annually in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. It is held in mid-June and falls on Father's Day Weekend. Sound of Music Festival is Canada's largest free music festival that spreads along the city's waterfront Spencer Smith Park and into the downtown core. Attending the festival is completely FREE. There are 90 acts across ten performance areas, as well as a Carnival, Family Zone, Downtown Streetfest, Grande Festival Parade and free music education program for children. The Festival attracts over 200,000 people annually eager to experience the lively, exciting atmosphere of the Festival. Popular music bands which have played in recent years include Tom Cochrane, Marianas Trench, Faber Drive, Finger Eleven, Sloan, New York Dolls, Men Without Hats, The Tea Party, The Trews, Jacksoul, Bedouin Soundclash, Great Lake Swimmers, Devo, Ashley MacIsaac and David Wilcox.
Joan Lougheed, a former Burlington city councillor, is a Founding Director of the Sound of Music Festival Inc.
Voted one of the Top 100 Festivals in Ontario, Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival is one of the summer’s most sought after shows. The festival features a unique blend of new and emerging artists, icons of the past, and fan favourites on several stages along Burlington's beautiful waterfront and downtown. [1]
The 2007 festival helped celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Burlington Teen Tour Band, Canada's oldest youth marching band. Celebrations, including a homecoming reunion, a concert and participation in the parade, were enacted to mark this anniversary. More information is available at the BTTB Alumni Web page.
