The Webber Independent School, previously Bury Lawn School[1], is a coeducational independent school in Milton Keynes. The school teaches children from the age of 3 through to 18. The school opened in 1970 before moving to its current purpose built site in Stantonbury, in the north of Milton Keynes, in 1987.[2] As an independent school The Webber Independent School charges fees for attendance, ranging between seven and ten thousand pounds per anum (depending on the child's age). Scholarships and bursaries are also offered.[3]

[edit] House System

The school operates a house system throughout the year groups, with the junior and senior portions of the school competing separately. The houses are as follows: [4]

  • Churchill
  • Newton
  • Shakespeare

Children are variously awarded house points for good behavior or achievement and have them taken away for misdemeanors.

[edit] Controversy

The school received criticism from parents in 2005 when the school was taken over by GEMS Education. Several protests by both teachers and pupils were made with anger mainly directed at the dismissal of school teachers and ultimatums given to parents regarding their children [5] [6]. Bury Lawn has also been at the centre of several pupil / teacher relationships which have hit national news[7] and drug related activity[8].
