Buses used by New Jersey Transit

New Jersey Transit Bus Operations and companies leasing buses from New Jersey Transit utilize various makes and models of buses between 25 and 60 feet in length to provide service within the state of New Jersey. As of 2007, 2,477 buses are branded for New Jersey Transit duty, while 683 other buses owned by New Jersey Transit are branded for duty by private operators such as Coach USA, a number that does not include community shuttle buses.
The roster below lists buses purchased and/or inherited by New Jersey Transit.

This list includes Transport of New Jersey, NJDOT-owned, and NJ Transit buses
- 1960-1973 GMC ""New Look"" The majority of these buses were inherited from Transport of New Jersey and the Maplewood Equipment Company.
- Late 1960s MCI MC-7: mostly ex-Greyhound
- 1970s GMC PD-4106 and PD-4107 ("Buffalo")
- 1973 Highway Products, Inc. TC-31: assigned to Passaic-Athenia Bus Lines, maybe others
- 1975-1978 MCI MC-8: Purchased surplus from various sources.
- 1976 Flxible 35096-8-1: 30 foot buses, most were assigned to private carriers.
- 1976 Flxible 45102-8-1: 35 foot buses, most were assigned to private carriers. Some were built with single doors.
- 1976 Flxible 53096-8-1: 40 foot buses, most were assigned to private carriers. Some were built with single doors and Suburban-style seating.
- 1976 Flxible 53102-8-1: 40 foot buses, most were assigned to private carriers. Some were built with single doors and Suburban-style seating.
- 1979 Flxible 870: purchased secondhand as replacements for destroyed ex-NYCT 870s.
- Late 1970s GMC Various "Buffalo" style buses were purchased secondhand.
- Various years Flxible "New Look" purchased secondhand.
All of these buses have been retired from NJ Transit service.

All active buses purchased before 1995 currently on the roster were manufactured by Flxible in 1989 (except for 3000 which is a 1988 unit) and are branded New Jersey Transit (units in private operator livery, where pictured, have been returned to NJ Transit or have been retired) of various seating patterns and widths as noted in the table.
All of the buses below are of the 1989 Flxible Metro-B type, with Detroit Diesel 6V92TA DDEC engines and Allison V731 transmissions, and are 40 feet long, but of different widths.

These buses are all of the Flxible Metro-D model built in 1994 (except for 3700 built in 1993), and are all 40 ft (12.19 m) long, 102 in (2.59 m) wide, and are fully ADA compliant.
