History[edit]

Byemoor was built in the early twentieth century along the railroad line, and was so named for the area's resemblance to a moor in England (Byemoor name originates from "By-the-moor") In its early years, it was an important centre as it was the main town for a large number of small farms. Crises in agriculture and improvement of transportation to larger centres, however, led to the slow depopulation of the hamlet and area.

Demographics[edit]

As a designated place in the 2011 Census, Byemoor had a population of 35 living in 16 of its 20 total dwellings, a -30% change from its 2006 population of 50. With a land area of 0.64 km2 (0.25 sq mi), it had a population density of 54.7/km2 (141.6/sq mi) in 2011.[1]

As of 2006, Byemoor had a total population of 50 living in 20 dwellings. With a land area of 0.64 km2 (0.25 sq mi), it has a population density of 77.9/km2 (202/sq mi).[3]

Services and infrastructure[edit]

Byemoor is home to a small grocery store and post office, gas station, hotel, arena, community hall, curling rink, St. Paul's Anglican Church and Byemoor School[4] (elementary/junior high school) all of which service the small farming community, as well as some minor oil field offices.
