C.I.D. is an Indian television series airs on Sony Entertainment Television. The series is about a team of detectives belonging to the Crime Investigation Division of the Mumbai Police. It stars Shivaji Satam, the noted film & television actor. The series is regarded as the longest running crime investigation TV series in India.
In January 1997, Sony Entertainment Television and Fireworks Productions launched a weekly crime - thriller called CID. CID set another record in November 2004, when Mr B.P. Singh entered ‘Guinness Book of World Records’[citation needed] for canning an entire episode of CID in just one single shot of 111 minutes (one hour fifty one minutes) without a single cut.
The CID team comprises of ACP Pradyuman, Abhijeet, Daya, Vivek, Tasha, Dr.Taarika, Dr.Salunkhe & Frederick. In 2006, CID flagged off its spin-off, CID Special Bureau, a daily investigative thriller, which had a run of 168 episodes.
CID is the longest running show in the history of Indian television. It is a laborious effort of years by Fireworks Production, Mr. BP Singh, Mr.Pradeep Uppoor and their team of actors, writers and production.
The actors – Shivaji Satham, Aditya Srivastav, Dayanand Shetty, Dinesh Phadnis and others, are the pillars of the show.
'==Characters==
A.C.P. Pradyuman (Shivaji Satham): A complete sensible police officer, ACP Pradyuman is the head of C.I.D. He lives by the saying ‘ Duty comes first’. He proved it by killing his criminal son, placing duty before fatherhood. His personal and professional life can be described in just one word, C.I.D. Every case in his career has just one status, solved!. Not a single criminal, no matter how clever has managed to outwit him for a long time. He is a master investigator and a tough boss. He expects perfection from his team, cares for them, but when it comes to work, he treats them with an iron hand. After all, perfection needs discipline.
Senior Inspector Abhijeet (Aditya Shrivastav): Sr. Insp. Abhijeet is a tough, handsome and an intelligent officer. He believes in out-thinking criminals. In the absence of ACP Pradyuman, he is the leader and head of the C.I.D team. He is more accessible than the A.C.P. Pradyuman, but his personal life is a great mystery. During an earlier police operation, criminals thrashed him and left him to die. Somehow, he managed to survive, but lost his memory-permanently. His past comes back to haunt him every once in a while and hence he doesn’t trust anyone, or rather he can’t. The only person he trusts is Senior Inspector Daya who is also his best friend. They share a great emotional bond. Because of his forgotten identity, he keeps going through emotional upheavals, but when it comes to work, he is the best and fulfills his duty. Sr. Insp. Abhijeet is called to be the right hand of A.C.P. Pradyuman.
Senior Inspector Daya (Dayanand Shetty): Sr Insp Daya is the muscular man in the C.I.D. He usually uses his muscle power to catch criminals. His hobby is to break doors. He is a quiet and caring person, and an important part of the team, almost as much as Abhijeet which is also his best friend. He is the most good looking in the team. His one slap can make a person tell the truth
Sub Inspector Fredricks (Dinesh Fadnis): Sub Insp. Fredricks is a police officer who finds humor even in the darkest of situations. His unusual method of cracking cases is effective, but also funny and humorous. But no one minds as long as he cracks the case. In fact, everyone in the team adores him. The only person he is scared of in his life is his wife, Manisha. In spite of being the longest serving cop in team, he is one of its junior members. But he has a secret ambition, a dream and that is to head the C.I.D one day.
Sub Inspector Vivek (Vivek Mashru): At just 24 years old, Sub Insp. Vivek is the junior most member of C.I.D. Although inexperienced, he has a knack for cracking cases. His sharp memory and innovative methods make him an indispensable part of the team. His only weakness, he wants to eradicate crime and criminals in just a day. But it is this aim that drives him.
Dr. Salunkhe (Narendra Gupta): Dr. Salukhe is a forensic scientist who is very sharp and intelligent. In shown to be bald, but he came back with full grown hair later. He is one of the brilliant minds of C.I.D., and earlier episodes he was is often shown talking to corpses and giving exact information which helps the team to solve cases, most of the time it is Dr.Salukhe who has the courage to crack jokes on Pradyuman.
Dr. Tarika (Shraddha Musale): Dr. Tarika is also a forensic scientist who assists Dr. Salukhe in his work. She is very hardworking, talented and beautiful, and Sr. Insp. Abhijeet is often shown to have a secret crush on her. She is generally shown as a student who learns a lot of things from Dr. Salukhe. Everyone in C.I.D doubt Abhijeet when he is talking with Tarika. In absence of Dr. Salukhe it is often shown that Dr. Tarika handles the forensic office of CID.
Officer Tasha (Vaishnavi Dhanraj): She is the newest and youngest officer in C.I.D., having joined it only months ago. She is a dedicated officer who mostly comes up with ideas about how the murder might have occurred.

[edit] Episodes
Some episode of C.I.D. starts with a member of the team describing the events of a crime, which is followed by the crime being occurred, and the C.I.D being called out to interrogate the case. Occasionally, while the crime is being committed, the team is usually having fun in the bureau; such as playing chess, talking about Cricket, or picking on Inspector Fredericks for his actions. The show assumes that in the city of Mumbai, police does not exist and for any crime the C.I.D. is directly contacted. The C.I.D. team then goes to the crime scene, and starts their search for evidence. Actually the CID is called by the Mumbai Police when a crime is too complex to solve using local police station based resources, or when cross-jurisdictional issues are involved. Additionally the CID team has the best equipped forensic pathology lab, and the latest in computerized equipment, and ballistic tests machines. They also are directly linked to the National Fingerprint database and to Interpol's international crime database. Hence their added value in the series. They always believe in one statement: "Every criminal always leaves something behind".
They search the setting until they find something, even the smallest thing, such as a strand of hair. The body, if it is a murder case, is taken to the forensic lab, where Dr. saluke and his assistant study the body. Dr. Salunkhe tells interesting thing on how the person may have died. He may have been stabbed by a knife, but he may be killed by poison. The C.I.D. team interrogates all the witnesses. After a lot of hard work, which involves lot of driving, running around and Inspector Daya breaking at least one door in each episode, the C.I.D. team solves the case and catches the criminal.
Each episode ends with the C.I.D. members catching the criminal after some brief action with guns and a handful of punches and kicks (mostly delivered by Daya) and explaining the details of the crime. The criminal always denies the allegations till one of the C.I.D. member slaps him/her. In the next shot, he/she is seen to be sitting on a chair in the bureau and confessing everything while crying. Finally one of the officers (mostly the ACP) tells the criminal what likely punishment they will receive for this crime. Mostly, capital punishment is awarded to men criminals and life imprisonment to women except in a few episodes. Now in the newer episodes, a few women have been awarded capital punishment as well.
[edit] Special cases
[edit] Behroopiya in CID. Independence 2009 special episode
The 2009 August 15 episode was a classic one. in it, somebody had created Abhijeet by plastic surgery and the fake Abhijeet got into the bureau without anybody getting any sort of doubt about him. As the show progressed, everyone got a doubt that Daya had been created by plastic surgery whereas Abhijeet was the original. Finally Daya came to the rescue and proved that Abhijeet present there was a fake one, then Daya got a bullet in his chest and was declared dead but later the doctor said that a miracle caused by the C.I.D members blessings had made him alive again.
[edit] CID and Salman Khan
The case as usual began with a crime scene of murder and the C.I.D. members when a girl stepped out of the crowd much to the unwillingness of her mother. She told Abhijeet that she had seen the person who had commited the murder and said that he was in a bike and knew the bike number. The officers found that a film was to be produced with the head actor as Salman Khan which was all the cause of the murder. Abhijeet then took a disguise as a normal man out to buy the pirated CDs. The episode ended with a shootout and the criminals arrested as usual.
