CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A, NYSE: GIB) is an information technology (IT) management and business process services (BPS) company. Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Montreal, Canada, CGI employs approximately 31,000 professionals in over 125 offices in 16 countries. As of September 2010, CGI had an annual revenue of CA $3.7 billion with an order backlog of CA $13.3 billion. CGI stands for "Conseillers en Gestion et Informatique" in French, or "Information Systems and Management Consultants," in English. However, the official English meaning is "Consultants to Government and Industry."[2] CGI is part of the Forbes Global 2000, an annual ranking of the top 2000 public companies in the world.[3]

Serge Godin founded CGI in 1976 in Montreal, Canada. In 2004, CGI purchased the majority of American Management Systems (AMS), acquiring the commercial business and all government business not related to national defense. In May 2010, CGI announced the acquisition of Stanley, Inc., for an enterprise value of approximately $1.07B.[4] In August 2010, CGI finalized the acquisition of Stanley.[5]
CGI is one of four primary Recovery Audit Contractors, established by the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, responsible for auditing region B.[6]
