CKEA-FM is radio station licensed to Edmonton, Alberta broadcasting an adult contemporary format. The station's license was approved in July 2009 [1], and officially launched in September 2010 as 95.7 The Sound, an adult album alternative station.
On March 28, 2011, at 6 AM, after three days of stunting with Christmas music, the station relaunched as adult contemporary, Lite 95-7. Lite's first song was Raise Your Glass by P!nk. The flip was done to restore the format back to Edmonton after a 51-day hiatus, when CFMG-FM moved from adult contemporary to contemporary hit radio. Since May 2011, the station now reports on Nielsen BDS, with Mediabase following suit the following month. CKEA-FM follows the trends of other Western Canada markets with only one adult contemporary radio station, such as Vancouver (CHQM-FM), Calgary (CHFM-FM) & Winnipeg (CKY-FM).
The last ratings period as "The Sound" (December/2010 - March/2011) placed the station at #17 with a 0.8 share. As of Fall 2011, after the switch to AC, the station ranked #14 with a 2.0 share.[2]
On November 12, 2011, CKEA-FM flipped to all-Christmas music at noon Mountain time, two hours after CKLH-FM in Hamilton, Ontario did so at noon Eastern time.[3]
