The Cabonne Shire is a Local Government Area in the Central West of New South Wales. It is on the Mitchell Highway and the Broken Hill railway line.
The council seat resides within one of the two largest villages in the Shire, Molong. The Shire also includes the villages of Borenore, Canowindra, Cargo, Cudal, Cumnock, Eugowra, Manildra, Mullion Creek, Nashdale and Yeoval.
The area includes the site of Australia's first gold rush, Ophir. It is also known for agriculture (including grape growing and wine-production), tourism, (including ballooning) and mining.

Cabonne Shire Council is composed of twelve councillors elected preferentially. The shire is divided into six wards, each electing two councillors. The mayor is not directly elected.[3] The current makeup of the council is as follows:[3]
