California's 42nd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California that covers parts of Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino counties in Southern California.
The district is currently represented by Republican Gary G. Miller.
[edit] Characteristics
The 42nd Congressional District is the second wealthiest district in the state and among the wealthiest in the country. The median income for the district in 2008 was $90,568, nearly twice the national average. The district is also racially diverse and more highly educated than the general population.[2]. The district is quite conservative, having backed Republican George W. Bush for President in 2004 over Democrat John Kerry by a large margin, and Republican John McCain in 2008 over Democrat Barack Obama. Since the district was reconfigured in 2000, it has not supported a Democrat in any state or federal election and is arguably one of the state's most reliably Republican strongholds.
