California's 12th State Senate District is one of 40 Senate Districts. It is currently represented by Republican Anthony Cannella of Ceres.

The 12th District encompasses the entirety of Merced and San Benito Counties and parts of Madera, Monterey, and Stanislaus Counties.

In spite of the Democratic advantage in voter registration, the 12th district is one of the more competitive districts in the state. Denham barely won the open seat in 2002 but was reelected comfortably in 2006.
