California's 6th State Senate district is one of 40 California State Senate districts. It is currently represented by Democrat Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento.

District profile[edit]

The 6th district covers the entire city of Sacramento as well as some surrounding places including Citrus Heights, Arden-Arcade (mostly), Carmichael (a small portion), Elk Grove (partly), Florin, Foothill Farms, La Riviera (mostly), North Highlands (mostly), Parkway-South Sacramento, Rancho Cordova (half), Rio Linda, and Rosemont.

2011 redistricting[edit]

After redistricting in 2011 by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, the new district encompasses the core of the Sacramento metropolitan area, including the state capital of Sacramento and surrounding suburbs. The ethnically and socioeconomically diverse district is a mix of urban and suburban areas. The new district lines will take effect in the 2014 election.
