California's 8th State Senate district is one of 40 California State Senate districts.

District profile[edit]

The district covered almost half of San Francisco and all but southeastern San Mateo County. Communities in the San Mateo portion of the district included Belmont, Brisbane, Broadmoor, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, El Granada, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Highlands-Baywood Park, Hillsborough, Millbrae, Montara, Moss Beach, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Bruno, San Mateo, South San Francisco, and Woodside.

2011 redistricting[edit]

After redistricting in 2011 by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, the district now stretches from the Sacramento suburbs to Death Valley. It encompasses most of the southern Sierra Nevada, Gold Country, and parts of the Central Valley. The new district lines will take effect in the 2014 election.
