Camp Qargha, formerly Camp Phoenix, is a NATO military installation in Afghanistan, maintained by the United States Army.[1] It is located in Kabul, about six miles from the Kabul International Airport (KBL).

August 2014 shooting[edit]

The base was the scene of a mass shooting on 5 August 2014, when a gunman dressed in an Afghan military uniform opened fire on a number of U.S., foreign and Afghan soldiers, killing U.S. Major General Harold J. Greene and wounding 14 officers and soldiers including a German brigadier general, eight U.S. soldiers, and two British soldiers.[2][3]
