Camp Qargha, formerly Camp Phoenix, is a NATO military installation in Afghanistan, maintained by the United States Army. It is located in Kabul, about six miles from the Kabul International Airport (KBL).
August 2014 shooting
The base was the scene of a mass shooting on 5 August 2014, when a gunman dressed in an Afghan military uniform opened fire on a number of U.S., foreign and Afghan soldiers, killing U.S. Major General Harold J. Greene and wounding 14 officers and soldiers including a German brigadier general, eight U.S. soldiers, and two British soldiers.
